Nice to meet you!
We are just an ordinary family who loves discovering new places, setting off on thrilling adventures and creating lasting memories together. Every journey we embark on strengthens the bond we share and deepens our appreciation for the world around us.
Our goal is to create important life lessons, expose them to diverse cultures and histories, and encourage them to embrace the endless array of opportunities that exist.
As a couple, our story originated when we first crossed paths in Boracay, a picturesque island in the Philippines, back in February 2018. Benn, an expatriate with over a decade of experience in both Hong Kong and Singapore, was residing in Singapore at the time, while I was living in Hong Kong.
Our encounter during a summer in Boracay blossomed from a fleeting romance into a long-distance relationship that endured for nearly a year. Our commitment led Benn to relocate to Hong Kong to be with me, strengthening our shared dream to embark on global adventures together.
In 2011, we made a daring move to quit our jobs, sold everything we own, and with no proper destination in mind, we set off to Kenya where we spent time working with local communities and teaching in a Kenyan School for a month before starting a relationship with an Orphanage that we continued to support & visit for several years.
Our journey continued as we traveled across Africa from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, and Morocco. We then embarked on an epic adventure by taking the Tran-Siberian Railway across China, Mongolia, and Russia.
From Russia, we continued our travels by means of buses and trains throughout Europe, before starting the Latin American leg of our journey. We traveled in Central & South America, ending with a special moment: Benn proposed at the Christ Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Less than a year after our global travels, we welcomed our first baby girl Ria. She was also present in our dream wedding destination, South Africa, where at only 3 months old, I was a proud Mama to have my little beautiful flower girl by my side.
After traveling for 15 months, we returned to Singapore. Benn worked at an insurance company. After 4 years, we felt there was more to life than the corporate world. When Benn's company closed, we decided not to find another job. Instead, we sold everything, packed our bags, and bought a one-way ticket to Costa Rica.
Costa Rica has been our treasured destination for 8 years now. During this time, we established a thriving fishing business, offering unforgettable day trips and exclusive fishing packages starting from the beautiful area of Quepos/Manuel Antonio.
Benn
I left my hometown of the Isle of Man at the tender age of 21. My intended 'Year in Asia' turned into 13 years living in Hong Kong and Singapore where I held Sales, Operations and Management positions in the Insurance & Financial Services sector. During 2011-2012, Cate and I took a career sabbatical and traveled the world armed with as many travel rods as I could fit in my backpack.
Cate
I am originally from the Philippines, grew up in Dubai, worked in oil & gas. Dubai is like a second home where most of my family lives. I was born in the Philippines, raised in Dubai. I also lived in Hong Kong and Singapore, a city girl at heart. Living in Costa Rica's coastal towns, I found balance with nature. When not working, I enjoy photography, filming family adventures, hiking in the rainforest, and outdoor activities with my kids.
Ria
Ria is a third Culture Kid, born in Singapore, a vibrant city known for its melting pot of cultures. She’s a sweet little girl with a contagious smile, inherently outgoing and curious about the world around her. Ria is extremely adventurous, always seeking new experiences, and displays remarkable bravery in the face of challenges.
Among the activities she loves are skiing in the snowy mountains, hiking through lush forests, horseback riding along picturesque trails, catching waves while surfing at beautiful beaches, and exploring new and exciting destinations around the world.. Her love of anything purple evokes the imaginative girl she is.
Oliver
Born in Costa Rica, Oliver is our next third culture kid. We call him ‘Tico’ as he is born in Costa Rica. This exceedingly sweet, cheerful, cheeky, and playful boy takes after his elder sister Ria, the qualities of being outgoing, brave, and adventurous. He greatly enjoys hiking in the jungles of Costa Rica and copies what other big kids do. He loves horseback riding, road trips, hotels, airplanes, sunset, and beaches. Orange and green are his favorite colors which express his traits of being warm, enthusiastic, often excited yet having a well-balanced temperament. At his age, he’s obsessed with collecting hot wheels toy cars and pokemon cards.
